My name is Netanel Seri and I am a body-based artist specifically working with vocal technique from the perspective of an actor. I was declared as "stum" or “unable to produce speech” when I was born, and I remained silent for the first five years of my life. Finally, when I started to speak, I started to stutter, and have been ever since.
Later, through the years, I discovered the arts and thus my relationship started with all things singing, sound, spatial and spiritual. To everyone’ s surprise (even myself), I was an extremely talented singer; a “vocal barbarian”.
I have been trained as an actor with a range of skills: from devised ensemble work to intensive Grotowskian discipline. Most recently, I completed a BA in Acting at the Norwegian Theatre Academy. Here, I honed my artistic identity and merged it with a craft-based perspective on performing. Meaning, that I balance between being a performer in someone else's production and doing my own creations.
Through my long journey in the academic milieu, first as a student in the Grotowski-based school in Sweden, and later at NTA, I have always prioritised a balance of working within the institutions and the independent field. Some of my collaborators over the years are Liv Kristin Holmberg, Ruth Wilhelmine Meyer, Peter Johansson and Camilla Wexel Riser as well as venues such as Stockholm Stadsteater, Østfold Teatret, Kulturkirken Jakob and Østfold Kunstsenter.
Finally one of my most important achievements is that I created a space for other artists such as myself - who primarily are working in the fringe of the artistic scene in Norway and Sweden to practice and present their experimental work and craft. This resulted in a residency and festival called “Body Poetry”. It has completed five editions as of 2025.
I hope to continue my own growth as an artist and to continue to provide avenues for others such as myself to afford to have a voice when there has been silence.
